In addition, potted plants should be avoided as much as possible. Organic waste has no place in the household of a mold allergy sufferer, nor does humidifiers or air conditioning systems. Excess humidity, which occurs during the night in bedrooms or when several people are present in offices, must be ventilated away (draft for 10 minutes, at least every 2 hours).

The best way to combat mold is through structural measures, such as: B. to avoid condensation due to cold bridges (visible through mildew stains). Walls should be able to temporarily absorb and retain moisture.

Retainable plaster layers, which release moisture again when the humidity has dropped, prevent walls from remaining permanently wet. Once fungal infestation has occurred on building materials, it is difficult to permanently eliminate it. Wallpaper, plaster and joint compounds usually have to be deeply removed. The use of fungicides should be avoided due to the toxicity of these substances. This measure often does not provide a permanent solution to the problem. However, 3 - 4% vinegar essence (available in grocery stores) works in the short term. The mold area is dabbed with a soaked cloth three times at intervals of 30 minutes, then rubbed with denatured alcohol.
